The goal of ROP’s health program is to achieve sustainable improvements in health status among vulnerable groups, especially the geographically remote, women of childbearing age, the old and children.
Health related activities include a Bamako initiative through which trained Community Health Workers (CHWs) are able to diagnose simple ailments, dispense drugs and promote health education within schools and communities. The award winning CHWs have been dubbed “foot doctors”. Advocacy against the HIV/AIDS pandemic is now being integrated in all activities undertaken by ROP.
ROP has established a VCT (Voluntary Counselling and Testing) centre at the Shikunga healthcentre will promote preventive approaches in the fight against the pandemic, provide medical, material and psychosocial support services to the people with HIV/AIDS, develop systems aimed at ensuring the welll being of all groups affected or infected by HIV/AIDS.
